On September 11, 2015, she was sentenced to 5 years in prison and fined RMB 50,000 for the crime of opening a casino. On July 13, 2019, Guo Meimei was released from prison after serving her sentence.
In March of this year, Guo Meimei was detained again for illegally selling drug-containing “diet candy”. This was her second crime. Mainland netizens called her “second in the palace.”
