There is a family drama behind the murder-suicide that took place today in Saronno, in the province of Varese. Stefano Rotondi, 54, killed his mother Teresa Sartori, 81, by hanging himself immediately afterwards in the family home in via Fratelli Cervi, in the Matteotti neighbourhood, the last elegant area before the beginning of the popular area of the city.
The woman had been ill for some time, the investigators confirmed, but no one outside the close circle of her family was aware of her serious illness.
“Truly an unthinkable tragedy, they were such a calm family. Never a scream, never an argument – say the disconcerted neighbors – If I hadn’t seen the police here all morning we would never have believed it. Nobody knew that Teresa was ill” . It was her neighbor who made the macabre discovery: when she entered the house to do some chores, she found her 81-year-old dead in the bedroom and her son hanged a few meters from her. For Saronno this is a shock. No one I knew would have ever imagined such a thing. The family is described as reserved and very polite. Never an argument, no commotion has ever reached the ears of the neighbors from the apartment on the fourth floor of the building in Via Cervi.
The Carabinieri of the Saronno company, coordinated by the Busto Arsizio prosecutor’s office, carried out all the necessary investigations. What happened appears clear and the motive also seems clear: a son exasperated by his mother’s health condition; a very heavy situation to manage. Frustration that turns into blind anger up to the extreme.
The judicial authority ordered an autopsy on the bodies to ascertain every detail and above all to understand how Sartori was killed.
Stefano Rotondi, a worker in a company in Caronno Pertusella, a passionate motorcyclist, is described as a calm man.
