According to comprehensive land media reports, on July 12, high temperatures above 40°C occurred in southern Jiangsu, northern Shanghai, southern Zhejiang, central and western Chongqing and northern regions of the Sichuan Basin. The area from Chongqing to Zhejiang is not only hot during the day, but also has a “minimum temperature” of about 30°C at night.

Among them, 284 streets and towns in Jiangsu Province exceeded 40 °C, and Jinchang Street in Suzhou reached 43 °C. The highest temperature in 31 national stations in 9 cities in the province has refreshed the extreme value in mid-July since 1961.

Deaths from heat stroke outbreaks in Sichuan and Zhejiang

Heat stroke is a disease in which the body’s thermoregulation function is dysfunctional due to high temperature, and the body heats up excessively, thereby causing damage to the nervous organs. Xu Yuansheng, deputy director of the emergency department of a hospital in Hangzhou, introduced that heat stroke is a serious condition of heat stroke, which may be life-threatening.

West China Hospital of Sichuan University stated that on the 10th, the hospital admitted and treated three consecutive heat stroke referral patients. Zhejiang Lishui Central Hospital has received 3 heat stroke patients in a row in the past week. One of them, a 70-year-old woman, developed needles during a nap, and her body temperature was as high as 42.5°C when she was sent to the hospital. She had multiple organ failure and is still being rescued. Emergency doctor Wu Jianrong said that a 49-year-old man passed out in the workshop on the 6th. He was admitted to the hospital with a temperature of 40.7 ℃ and was in shock. The rescue was ineffective, and he died in the early morning of the 8th.

An emergency doctor at Run Run Run Shaw Hospital affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine said that more than 10 patients with heat stroke have been admitted to the emergency department in the past two days, including a 56-year-old male patient with severe heat stroke. The patient worked outdoors at the construction site on the 10th. When he was sent to the hospital, his body temperature was 41°C and he was unconscious.

The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine has recently received HS patients every day. Most of the young patients have exertional HS, and the elderly have non-worked classic HS.

Hangzhou First People’s Hospital disclosed that in early July, a runner in his 40s fell into a coma after a morning run by the West Lake. He was diagnosed with heat stroke and sent to the hospital with a temperature of 41°C.
