His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, presided on Monday, May 15, 2023 at the Royal Palace in Rabat, the presentation ceremony of the first car model made in Morocco, and the prototype of a hydrogen-powered vehicle developed by a Moroccan, two innovative projects that would promote the “Made in Morocco” brand, and strengthen The Kingdom’s position as a competitive platform for car production.

The presentation of the car of New Motors, a company with Moroccan capital, and the prototype of the hydrogen vehicle of NamX, which was called the HUV (Hydrogen Utility Vehicle), confirms His Majesty’s will to encourage pioneering national entrepreneurial initiatives and innovative capabilities. and their advancement, especially among Moroccan youth, which are embodied in these two projects.

These two industrial initiatives are in perfect harmony with the royal directives aimed at directing the private sector towards productive investment, especially in the developed and future sectors, and stimulating the emergence of a new generation of companies in the Kingdom.

These two projects also enshrine the enlightened vision of His Majesty the King regarding sustainable development and the promotion of renewable energies, especially in the promising green hydrogen sector.

New Motors established an industrial unit in Ain Aouda (Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region) to manufacture cars destined for the local market and for export. The annual production capacity is expected to reach 27,000 units, with a local integration rate of 65 percent.

It is expected that the total investment in this project will reach 156 million dirhams, with the possibility of creating 580 jobs.

In February 2023, the National Agency for Road Safety granted final approval to the first vehicle. The company oversaw the launch of the initial chain of production, and intends to inaugurate this industrial unit during the month of June and launch the marketing process.

This project, which marks the birth of the first Moroccan car brand for the public, is supervised by national competencies. And it relies, in particular, on a local system for preparing cars, which is being developed by the Kingdom.

As for NamX’s hydrogen vehicle prototype, it was designed in partnership with the prestigious Italian design bureau specializing in bodywork (Pininfarina). The vehicle’s interior design was created by Moroccan talent.

The HUV (Hydrogen Utility Vehicle) model will be supplied with hydrogen through a central tank that will be reinforced with six removable capsules, which will enable significant battery capacity and facilitate hydrogen charging in a few minutes.

This pioneering project places Morocco at the heart of the renewed dynamic, at the global level, aimed at developing new forms of transport that combine efficiency and respect for the environment.

Subsequently, His Majesty awarded Messrs. Nassim Belkhayat, founder and managing director of New Motors, and Fawzi Najah, founder and managing director of Namex, with the Medal of Intellectual Competence.

This ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Riad Mazour.
