The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, under the direction of Germán Umaña, has projected a notable increase in domestic tourism during the Easter season. This flow of visitors is expected to have a positive impact on more than 106,000 tourism service providers involved in various activities throughout the country.
In order to guarantee the safety of travelers, the Ministry of Commerce will work closely with the Ministry of Transportation and the National Police. 5,300 uniformed personnel will be deployed on the main access roads and 864 police officers specialized in protecting tourism. These troops will be strategically distributed in 61 cities and 164 municipalities that make up the Tourist Network of Heritage Towns.
The Vice Minister of Tourism, Arturo Bravo, pointed out the beauty and attractiveness of destinations such as Popayán and the department of Cauca, highlighting their potential as nature tourist destinations. Bravo mentioned the Puracé National Park and the San Juan Hot Springs as unmissable points of interest, where visitors can enjoy the impressive fauna and flora.
Popayán, in particular, is presented as a leading city for tourists, especially after the recovery of visitors in 2023. Within the framework of gastronomic tourism, the city invested more than $270 million in the Mesa Larga Traditional Cuisine Festival. In addition, Popayán was recognized as a Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO. Where it includes traditional dishes such as pipián empanadas, tamales, typical sweets and a variety of fusions.
Along with Popayán, other towns were also highlighted by the Ministry of Commerce. Among these are Villa de Leyva in Boyacá, Ciénaga de Oro in Córdoba, Tadó in Chocó, Tolú in Sucre, as well as San Andrés and Providencia, and Cartagena. These destinations offer a wide range of cultural, historical and natural experiences for tourists looking to explore the diversity and beauty of Colombia during Holy Week.
