Licenses to export gas will be delivered in June

The government of President Nicolás Maduro plans to issue the licenses to the aforementioned companies next June.

The Minister of Petroleum and President of the state-owned Petróleos de Venezuela SA, Pedro Tellechea, confirmed that licenses will be granted to the European companies Eni Spa from Italy, and the Spanish company Repsol so that they can export natural gas.

The government of President Nicolás Maduro plans to issue the licenses to the aforementioned companies next June.

As will be recalled, on May 5 the agreement between Venezuela and the aforementioned companies was signed. With this, a license must be granted for the export of natural gas liquids or condensates. In this way, the country becomes an exporter of natural gas after 100 years of only exporting oil.

“In the next few days we will finish negotiating the gas export license,” Tellechea said in an interview with a media outlet in which he also stressed that “Eni and Repsol are interested in growing in the gas area in Venezuela. They had been waiting for the export permit for natural gas liquids for seven years.”

In this sense, he reported that the “start date of exports will depend on the speed of the investment they disburse.”

The objective of the two European companies is to resume their jointly managed Cardón IV project “at its maximum capacity”, which is 1.3 billion cubic feet, Tellechea said during an interview with him.
