Just five days after the election results, there is the new council of the Municipality of Milan. to announce it was the same mayor Giuseppe Sala, in his second term and elected in the first round with 57.7 percent of the votes, with an impressive gap from the challenger Luca Bernardo (over twenty points). “I made two promises that I hope I have kept,” said the mayor. “The first was absolute equality between men and women, which in the last mandate had been substantial, while this is absolute, which means six men and six women, as is now normal”.
The second promise of the mayor was instead on the timing: «I said I would do it quickly and in fact we made a junta in five days. This is because I am aware of the delicacy of the moment, on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan there is a lot to do, there was no need to lose even a day ». The scheme was the one leaked in the past few hours: twelve councilors, of which six women, two under 30 and with six boxes filled in by the Democratic Party, two from the civic list of Sala, one from the Reformists, one from the Greens and two technicians chosen directly by the mayor. For the moment he explained that he will take care of understanding how and when the funds of the PNRR will be assigned: “But then – he said – they will be distributed to the councilors and it will be they, together with the general director of the Municipality Christian Malangone, to manage them”.
So here are the names of the Sala 2 council, which will govern Milan until 2026. The deputy mayor will be, as announced Tuesday by the same Sala, the dem Anna Scavuzzo, already deputy mayor in the previous mandate. But this time he will assume the powers of Education, which in the last round were divided into two different departments. “Technically – Sala specified – we will call the Department of Education and Relations with the City Council”. Also in the Pd house remain the Department of Housing and Development of the Neighborhood Plan, which goes to the most voted in Italy, Pierfrancesco Maran, former Councilor for Urban Planning in Room 1 and Mobility and Transport with Pisapia. «On the House I explained to Maran, who shares it, that we must find a formula to make our heritage and that of the Region profitable, improving management and intensifying the dialogue with those who live there. And “Piano Quartieri” means that we must be faithful and very faithful to our project of bringing essential services to neighborhoods, ”said the mayor.
Welfare and Health – which is a novelty – go to Lamberto Bertolè, the third most voted in the Democratic Party and former president of the Palazzo Marino classroom: “Compared to the last council, we have removed the Popular Building and added Health, which it is relevant to my schedule and to all of us. Healthcare will deserve special attention, especially when community houses are built, one for every 50,000 inhabitants: we have to think about where they will be built, collaborate with the Region ”, explained Sala. Another important department goes to the Democratic Party, that of Mobility headed by the former deputy mayor of the Metropolitan City, Arianna Censi, who “has common sense and will know how to follow the path traced by following what happens in big cities”. The new entry, very young but in politics for ten years already despite being in her first candidacy at Palazzo Marino, is the dem Gaia Romani, 25, feminist, to whom the mayor entrusts the councilorship for Civic Services because Milan must “speed up the waiting time”. Finally, the last box of the Democratic Party is occupied by Marco Granelli, former councilor for Transport in Room 1 and at the Green with Pisapia. “Granelli will have to recruit 500 police officers, collaborate with the other police forces and pay close attention to security at night. Because this is something that citizens are asking of us ”.
As for the civics, there are two names. The budget goes to Emmanuel Conte, leader of the civic list of the mayor, former city councilor since 2016 and former president of the Budget commission. “It will not be easy years for the keeping of the budget – clarified the mayor – but we must try to put all state property into use. I asked him to be constantly present in the Municipality and above all not to have conflicts of interest ». The latter is a risk that Sala himself excludes given that Conte “has been in politics for many years and his family also knows the mechanisms of politics well”. The second civic is the other leader of the Sala list, the 28-year-old Martina Riva, to whom the Department of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policies goes. «It is clear that tourism needs to be rebuilt in Milan and in Italy and that it will be very national and less intercontinental, with different residence times. But we must not throw away the work done in the past. On Sport, on the other hand, we must enjoy the driving force of the Olympics and bring sport to schools among young people ».
There are two technicians: he comes to Culture from Florence, where he held the role of councilor for Dario Nardella, the Milanese Tommaso Sacchi. For the mayor, whose mission will be «not so much the big coup de théâtre, but a great attention to the neighborhoods themselves. For this I thank my friend Nardella to whom I take Tommaso away ». The other technician is instead Giancarlo Tancredi, manager of the Municipality who worked with Maran when he was City Planning Councilor, to whom this delegation, which will be called Urban Regeneration, actually goes. “I have known him for many years, even since I was general manager of the municipality,” Sala said. According to which with Tancredi, «we must believe the polycentric cities, in 15 minutes, but also to exercise to stimulate investments and reduce the urbanizable surface by 4%».
The Environment goes to Elena Gradi, of the Verdi. «Milan can be the basis for a great process of environmental transformation that combines ecology and work. It must be not ideological and not fake, you need the ability to affect and think that the processes are not made in tears but with the right pace and without ever stopping ».
The twelfth councilorship goes to the Reformists, with Alessia Cappello taking over the work and economic development. «Growth in Milan at this stage is obligatory, if you don’t grow up you can’t do a series of things. The theme – explained Sala – is to show what the Municipality does directly and indirectly with the intermediate bodies ». Finally, the mayor will set up a board on technological matters: “We will set up it very quickly, it will be an organism that reports directly to me, we will build it trying to put it in, I hope quality people because if we succeed and I am convinced that we will, to do something good in Milan there could be great reverb, ”he said. As for his staff, in addition to the reconfirmation of Malangone as general manager, Mario Vanni will also remain as head of the Cabinet.
