Hundreds of people will be able to watch the six processional parades comfortably and free of charge.
With the Eucharist procession, this Holy Monday the traditional sacred parades begin in Popayán, which date back to 1556.
This first parade of Holy Week, organized by the Juna Processional of Holy Monday, leaves at 8:00 pm, from the church of El Carmen and the Postgraduate House of the University of Cauca (street 4 between races 3 and 4 ).
From Tuesday to Holy Saturday, the processions are organized by the Fundación Junta Permanente Pro Semana Santa and start from different temples located in the historic sector of the city.
For several years now, stands have been installed in Caldas Park, in front of the Cauca Government, so that parishioners and tourists can observe this tradition in comfort and order, for a fee. On this occasion, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, through its dDirector of Quality and Sustainable Development, John Ramos, made a symbolic delivery to the mayor of Popayán, Juan Carlos Muñoz Bravo, of this infrastructure, without having to assume a cost, especially for older adults and people with reduced mobility.
According to the Minturism delegate, Popayán is today one of the most important destinations in the country in terms of religious tourism, consequently, the National Government and local authorities adopted this initiative that favors citizen participation and, therefore, the strengthening of this popular expression, which is the oldest in Colombia.
“For the Ministry it is very important to support all those projects and initiatives, which, like that of the mayor, Juan Carlos Muñoz Bravo, are aimed at strengthening the tourist vocation of Popayán,” said Ramos.
For his part, the president of the capital of Cauca thanked the Ministry for its attention. “On this occasion we decided to put into practice a beautiful experience in recognition of older adults, offering them, free of charge, this space in the stands of Caldas Park so that they can enjoy our processions in total comfort,” added Muñoz Bravo.
