Our daily bread is in crisis and seeks support – news

More than 20,000 bakers in the country come together to boost their businesses in the month of March.

The country’s bakeries are going through a difficult situation, due to the high costs of inputs, inflation and high interest rates, which has forced them to raise prices and reduce the size of their “daily bread.” This has caused many consumers to stop buying the amount of bread they previously consumed.

Given this situation, the bakers and the industry around them are attracting attention and one of the strategies is to boost their businesses in this month of March, with the campaign “Bread With Faith”.

Bread is a product desired by Colombians, families get together to enjoy it at different times of the day or times of the year, which is why it became a fundamental food in Colombian homes.

Due to its importance and with the objective of creating a bread that reflects the culture and tradition of the country, more than 20,000 bakers created the Bread with Faith, made with fortified wheat flour, cheese, arequipe and Colombian panela, ingredients that represent part of Colombian gastronomy.

Thousands of bakeries nationwide will be in charge of its preparation: neighborhood bakeries, baking companies, small, medium and large bakeries, will sell Pan Con Fe during the month of March.

These businesses register sales of more than three billion pesos and generate approximately 400,000 direct jobs. The baking sector represents 16% of national food production and Colombia is the fifth country in the region in per capita consumption of bread with 22 kilos per year.

According to Pilar Ortiz, executive director of the Chamber of Wheat Millers – Fedemol, “bread feeds the world. We work throughout the production chain of foods derived from wheat. Bakers are an essential actor in this chain, which is why we find it very important to support them and work together to continue feeding Colombians. “This is the type of actions that allows us to highlight these cultural values and through a food like bread, we want to pay tribute to the bakers who get up early every day to bake it and allow us to start the day with the best energy.”

Aware of the importance of promoting ideas that have a positive impact on the Colombian baking industry, the campaign Bread with Faith Guilds joined, such as the National Association of Bread Manufacturers in Colombia (Adepan), the Chamber of Wheat Millers (Fedemol) and the National Federation of Panela Producers (Fedepanela).
