Overwhelmed by a collapse during renovations. Fabio Sure died at 39 in the construction site where he was working. It all happened this afternoon, in Palmariggi, a town of just over a thousand inhabitants in the province of Lecce.

According to what was reconstructed, he was involved in the fall of the solar pavement on which he was operating with a pneumatic hammer, falling to the ground and ending up under the rubble. A sudden failure that left him no way out.

The construction company was engaged in the demolition and renovation of a garage floor. At that time, there were other workers as well. It was they who sounded the alarm and called for help. First the arrival of 118, then the race to the nearby hospital in Scorrano. But there was nothing for him to do. Those injuries were too serious and he died shortly after.

The investigations – coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office – are entrusted to the carabinieri. On site also the inspectors of the Prevention and Safety Service in the workplaces of the ASL.

The accident occurred in via vicinale San Nicola. Investigators have collected numerous testimonies and carried out a series of surveys, while the area was seized, at the disposal of the prosecutor on duty, Maria Vallefuoco. An autopsy will be performed in the next few hours: an attempt is made to shed full light on the causes of death.

The carabinieri let it be known that “investigations on workplace safety and authorizations” are underway by the stations of Bagnolo del Salento and Scorrano in collaboration with Spesal.
