Palm Sunday, a tradition that filled the vallenatos with joy

The smell of incense and incense led the path of the faithful towards each of the religious temples of Valledupar. This Palm Sunday, the day that marks the beginning of Holy Week, the Catholic faithful experienced the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, with a heart full of hope and deepening the transformation that God expects of every human being.

From 6:00 in the morning the churches opened their doors, the faithful came to witness the Eucharist, however, family prayer predominated over all things, prayers were present and prayers for a better future were what characterized the parishioner this Palm Sunday.

With a palm in their hand, as a symbol of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, each priest began the Eucharist. As he passed by, they blessed the branches that the faithful raised with faith as a sign of devotion. Receiving holy water is the symbol of a new beginning, of a transformation.

To the church of La Inmaculada Concepción, in the center of Valledupar, the faithful arrived at dawn, while the bells rang in signal of a religious festival that began yesterday as the Semana Mayor.

The procession toured the streets of Old Valledupar and the concentration focused on the Alfonso López de Valledupar square, where Monsignor Oscar Vélez Isaza, bishop of the Diocese of Valledupar, presided over the blessing of the palms and the central mass in the morning.

Ana Cecilia Cortez, parishioner, arrived at Plaza Alfonso López with the first rays of the sun, thanking God for the moment. “It was very exciting to feel the church in your heart, it was a mixture of joy and nostalgia, that is to say thank you to God for life.”

IT IS A GRACE, A BLESSING

The central mass of Palm Sunday was presided over by Monsignor Oscar Vélez Isaza, Bishop of the Diocese of Valledupar, in the Inmaculada Concepción church, who reiterated that this Palm Sunday a grace was experienced, a blessing to be able to receive the faithful in their temples.

It is Sunday where the entire Holy Week is summarized. Easter is death and life, that man triumphs over sin and death. “Let us live Holy Week in recollection, being prudent, that there is no need to go over someone to demonstrate our faith, which is not fanaticism or proselytism.”

Praise the Lord, for he is good. That is the call to the parishioner to live with joy the death and resurrection of Christ.
