Pastor in Italy on leave after testing positive for cocaine

The diocese of Sulmona-Valva announced this on its website. The temporary break serves to examine the allegations against the pastor. The priest’s reputation and the well-being of the small community of Rivisondoli in Abruzzo, where the priest worked, should also be protected. The suspension has been in effect since Saturday.

Rome. The priest, who comes from Colombia, was in a car accident a few days ago. As the Roman daily “Il Messaggero” reported, he drove his vehicle into the guardrails of a motorway on the way home from dinner. When his injuries were treated at the Sulmona hospital, the laboratory there detected significant amounts of cocaine in the priest’s blood.

“Il Messaggero” reported online on Sunday that the priest had to leave his parish because the diocese had issued a six-month ban on residence. The priest’s lawyer told the newspaper that his client took the drug accidentally or unknowingly. He temporarily withdrew to a monastery.
