A man residing in the province of Varese was sued for a lucrative activity of selling pirate subscriptions in many Italian regions carried out through the internet thanks to the violation of the rights of the television platforms’ Mediaset Premium ‘,’ Sky ‘,’ Dazn ‘and’ Disney Channel ‘.

This was announced by the Guardia di Finanza of Varese. The suspect is accused of “counterfeiting, infringement of intellectual property and computer fraud” while the unwary subscribers, about 1,800, in addition to hefty fines, have been reported for receiving stolen goods.

The seller of the pirated season tickets was reported to the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office – Computer Crimes Section, for the crimes of counterfeiting, alteration or use of trademarks or distinctive signs or patents, models and designs, infringement of intellectual property and computer fraud. The Gdf then challenged the administrative offenses against the numerous subscribers with the application of sanctions for a total of about 300 thousand euros and, on the other hand, the taxation of the illegal proceeds of the suspect, quantified in about 50 thousand euros, the result of illegal sales operations carried out from 2017 to 2020.

The sale operation took place through the contacts present on the websites: telephone numbers, email addresses, dedicated instant messaging channels. The suspect managed the requests for information and the stipulation of subscription contracts with individual customers who, following the communication of the Mac Address, received the order number with the details for the execution of payments. Singular, underlines the Guardia di Finanza, that, in order to decline any responsibility in case of viewing of these channels in our country, subscribers were also indicated one of the conditions of sale of the products, with which the pirate site was expressly communicated to the same that “the viewing of such television schedules could have entailed risks connected with the exclusive rights of diffusion of intellectual property”.
