Russian Cargo Plane Lands in Venezuela After Making Stops in Africa

A cargo plane from the Russian airline Aviacon Zitotrans recently landed at the “Simón Bolívar” international airport in Maiquetía, La Guaira state, after making two stops in Africa. The IL-76 type aircraft with registration RA-78765 departed from Moscow on February 7 and made stops in Sochi, the island of Djerba in Tunisia, and Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, before reaching Venezuelan territory.

According to a report by Conflicts News Worldwide (CNW), the airline Aviacon Zitotrans is sanctioned by the United States for its role in delivering Russian weapons and military equipment. One of its destinations has been Venezuela, where it reportedly left packages at the “El Libertador” Air Base in the state of Aragua.

The presence of the Russian cargo plane in Venezuela raises questions about the nature of the cargo it delivered and the potential implications for international relations. The arrival of the sanctioned airline in the South American country may also raise concerns about its involvement in the delivery of weapons and military equipment.

The Venezuelan government has yet to comment on the arrival of the Russian cargo plane and the nature of its cargo. This situation is developing, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
