Hamburg can make significant gains in start-up companies. According to a study, the number of start-ups rose by around 40 percent in the first half of the year.

“Start-ups are a breath of fresh air for the economy,” says Economics Senator Melanie Leonhard (SPD). Start-ups usually have an innovative business idea and grow quickly. And Leonhard believes that Hamburg is ideal for these young companies. Because in the city there are many potential customers from industry and medium-sized companies.

90 start-ups in the first half of the year

In the first half of the year, according to a study by the Federal Association of German Start-ups 90 such companies founded. Based on the number of inhabitants, the Hanseatic city is in second place – behind Berlin, but well ahead of Bavaria. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania brings up the rear.

If you only compare the big German cities, then Munich comes in first, Hamburg only in sixth place – Berlin, Karlsruhe, Darmstadt and Heidelberg are in between.
