On the morning of this Tuesday, February 13, students from the Virgen del Carmen educational institution, located in the town of La Mesa, jurisdiction of Valledupar, interrupted their classes in protest against the change of one of the teachers who are part of the body of educators. .
The peaceful demonstration was supported by the community of the population to reject the change of the mathematics teacher, which would take more than two days to be carried out by the students of the educational establishment, who stated that they would not end the protest until the Secretary of Education of Valledupar, Camilo Pinto, was present at the scene so that final decisions could be made regarding the order that, apparently, would have been taken by the school’s rector.
Through audios sent by residents of the district to this medium, they denounce possible irregularities carried out by the current rector of the Virgen del Carmen school, which generated the demonstration as a way of asserting their rights as an educational community.
Through a letter sent to The PYLON by Murgas, you can read that the rector of the educational establishment, Jorge Rafael García, notifies him that “due to the low enrollment coverage and the review of the matrix of teaching needs, it is at the disposal of the municipal Secretary of Education”, mentions the document.

“Through a letter issued by the rectory, they left me at the disposal of the Ministry of Education, supposedly due to low coverage. This is false, since there are 40 hours of mathematics areas and I am the designated teacher for that area at the Virgen del Carmen institution; Therefore, the first 22 hours must be assigned for my subject, and at no time have I requested to be transferred to another institution,” The teacher stated to this medium, via chat.
After the situation, we tried to communicate with the Secretary of Education to find out what measures would be taken, but it was not possible to establish a dialogue.
However, at the time of going to press, the teacher reported that Secretary Camilo Pinto had arrived in the area, but there was no commitment regarding the situation of handing over the position to the education professional. “The secretary maintained that he could not intervene in an issue that is the autonomy of the rector, which is not so true, because as secretary he has the responsibility of guaranteeing the educational service under normal conditions and ensuring the legal conditions of all actors. This leaves the educational community without a regular mathematics teacher, depending on overtime, without having a reason to come to this, because I have not requested a transfer of the position,” said Luis Murgas, professor.
