Former paramilitary leader Salvatore Mancuso arrives in Colombia, faces extreme security measures at La Picota prison
After being deported from the United States, former paramilitary leader Salvatore Mancuso arrived in Colombia and was taken to the extraditable pavilion of La Picota prison. The director of Inpec, Colonel Daniel Fernando Gutiérrez, detailed the extreme security measures that will be in place to ensure Mancuso’s safety and prevent any escape attempts.
Mancuso will be permanently guarded in his cell, with additional security filters for access and perimeter security provided by the National Police. Colonel Gutiérrez emphasized the strict controls in place to monitor Mancuso’s movements and prevent any potential threats to his safety.
Furthermore, even the food provided to Mancuso will be carefully monitored to prevent any poisoning attempts. Colonel Gutiérrez explained that there are safety instructions regarding food, and special conditions will be enforced to avoid any risks to Mancuso’s safety.
Despite these measures, the details of Mancuso’s security arrangements are still being finalized. Colonel Gutiérrez noted that there have been no requests from the defense regarding specific needs such as mattresses or other personal items. However, the issue of food security has been a priority, with measures in place to allow Mancuso to bring in raw food and prepare it within the establishment to mitigate any risks.
As Mancuso prepares to share his knowledge of the armed conflict in Colombia and its protagonists, the Colombian authorities are taking all necessary precautions to ensure his safety and prevent any potential security threats.
