The most powerful heat wave of 2022 is on its way

After the passage of the intense wave of storms, hail and storms that literally upset the atmosphere of most of the Italian regions, an old acquaintance returns to the peninsula, the high pressure of the Azores, traditional travel companion of the Italian summers of about ten or fifteen years ago, when the heat was hot, yes, but without excess. But it will only be a brief interlude of relief.

Because the Azorean Anticyclone will keep us company only until mid-week, when it will be supplanted by the oppressive African anticyclone, which for at least the following ten days will hit our country by what could be the most powerful African heat wave of Summer 2022. .

Hot temperatures on the way

This was announced by meteorologist Mattia Gussoni, of iLMeteo.it. Experts estimate for the Po Valley (i.e. Milan, Mantua, Bologna, Padua, Verona, Ferrara), Tuscany (Florence) and Umbria (Terni) temperatures above 38-39 ° C as early as Friday 15 and at least until July 22nd. While for the rest of the center and the south, values are expected to be a few degrees lower for now. Of course, along with the heat there will also be muggy and tropical nights (i.e. with temperatures always above 20 ° C). But until then, or until Wednesday 13 July, the temperatures will be pleasant.

The current situation

For now, however, the Azorean anticyclone is back in vogue. Hence the reappearance, after a long time, of the high pressure protagonist of the Italian summers of the past that from the Atlantic Ocean, with its maximum pressure on average near the Azores Islands (hence its name), typically stretched up to embrace central-western Europe. The effects will be felt already today when we will have stable and sunny weather conditions throughout the country (except the last showers in the South), as well as temperatures in line with the seasonal averages or at most slightly higher. So, hot, yes, but without excesses and without the bother of the heat as has happened in recent weeks.

In the South, especially on the Adriatic and Ionian slopes, rather lively and sparkling ventilation is expected from the northern quadrants, which will further mitigate the temperatures. The high pressure of the Azores will keep us company also on Sunday 10th, guaranteeing almost total atmospheric stability with sun and temperatures substantially in line with the period: maximum peaks around 28/32 ° C are expected in the main towns of the Center-North, even some degree less on the Adriatic side and in the South.
