The regimes of Cuba and North Korea strengthened their alliance during a ceremony in Havana

The Cuban dictator, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and the North Korean ambassador to the island, Ma Chol Su, met in Havana on Saturday to reaffirm their countries’ long-standing friendship and cooperation.

The meeting, reported by the official Cuban media news, highlighted the strong ties between the two nations, which date back more than 60 years. Díaz-Canel praised the “unique friendship” between Cuba and North Korea, while Chol Su promised to convey messages of brotherhood to leader Kim Jong-Un.

The relationship between the two countries has been marked by a shared opposition to interventionist policies and sanctions, particularly from the United States. High-profile visits, such as Fidel Castro’s trip to Pyongyang in 1986 and Díaz-Canel’s visit in 2018, have further solidified their alliance.

The event comes at a time when North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been increasing his threats against the West and pursuing closer ties with allies like Russia and Iran. Recent military exercises and missile tests have raised concerns about the country’s growing attack capabilities.

The meeting between Díaz-Canel and Chol Su underscores the continued strength of the Cuba-North Korea relationship and their shared commitment to standing against imperialism and aggression.
