The trial championship will take place, but the track has to change

Eliminated a section of the route that had been reported for its dangerousness. Legambiente and M5s sing victory: it was we who raised the problem

TOLMEZZO. Twist on the world trial championship that will take place in Tolmezzo on Saturday and Sunday: the event was authorized by the Carnia mountain community, but with the route changed in one of the sites contested by the president of the Alto Friuli of Legambiente, Marco Lepre , and by the regional councilors of the M5s Cristian Sergo and Ilaria Dal Zovo, that is a point close to the climbing wall above Betania, because according to an ordinance of the mayor still in force it has been banned since 2011 due to very high danger with risk of falling rocks.

In the end a solution was found and the world championship is saved, moving a stretch of about 200 meters of the proposed route further downstream, but the story that has taken place risks causing a showdown on another front now: the use of the climbing wall by many climbing enthusiasts despite limitations.

Lepre highlights the change of course of the race and declares: «The mayor Brollo, the other members of the council, the vice-president of the regional council Mazzolini, the councilor Piccin have been misled. They had shouted to the four winds that everything was in order and instead, as we had said, a part of the route was in an area with danger for the safety of people. The council of Tolmezzo forgot to mention that there was the 2011 ordinance.

The path was rejected, this is the truth. We are extremely available to a public confrontation, which unfortunately with the mayor of Tolmezzo and Mazzolini is not easy to have ». Lepre invites the mayor, Francesco Brollo, who voted in the Council for an environmental emergency declaration in support of Greta Thunberg, to be consistent. The councilors of the M5s Sergo and Dal Zovo reply to their colleague Mara Piccin, “whom we remember – they say – to be the president of the Commission for the protection of the environment and not of motor events”, and to the Northern League’s Stefano Mazzolini. Dal Zovo and Sergo claim to have signaled a stretch with Lepre that could be «dangerous for the spectators but also for the participants. For others, certain reports are mud thrown on the demonstration, so everything is always fine with them, as long as economic interests prevail ”.

For the two councilors, the rules for issuing these authorizations must be reviewed. Piccin accuses Sergo and Dal Zovo of wanting political arbitrariness in the authorizations, when they affirm that it would be more appropriate to pronounce a political body rather than an administrative manager on the authorization.

Piccin points out that the event will take place, «with a lot of authorizations and in safety, and the modification of the route, among other things for an aspect relating to safety and not to the environment, does not change the substance of what I have said. The M5s, on the other hand, declares itself “perplexed”, but perhaps it would be better to say disappointed, by the authorization to the race ».
