Three young people hit another in the middle of the public road, in Otavalo. They all wear uniforms from local educational institutions.
OTAVALO.- The alerts were activated in local and national authorities after a video, circulating on social networks, will show the brutal aggression that three young people exert on another girl, who appears sitting on a sidewalk while being hit on her face.
“About a video that circulates on social networks, where the physical attack on a student by three women is observed, in Otavalo, Imbabura. The National Police, through its specialized units, was immediately activated to gather information in order to carry out the corresponding procedures to request protection measures for the victim and continue with the investigation of the case,” they stated from the National Police, on March 9, 2024.
For its part, the Ministry of Education assured that, after learning of the case, it activated all the corresponding protocols to protect the well-being of the affected student.
“Given the fact of physical and psychological violence against a student from the República del Ecuador Educational Unit, in the Otavalo canton, in the province of Imbabura, recorded in previous days, the Ministry of Education informs citizens that as soon as it learned about the case “activated all care protocols for legal, psychological and emotional support for the student and her family,” they detailed.
Through a statement, they added that, punctually, the staff of that State Portfolio accompanied the young woman and her mother to the evaluation of the medical examiner, to the Judicial Unit for Family, Women, Children and Adolescents and Adolescent Offenders of the Otavalo canton. , to the Public Defender’s Office and to the free legal clinic of the University of Otavalo.
“With these actions, this State Portfolio ratifies not only strict compliance with the indicated protocols, but also the firm commitment to ensure the integrity of all boys, girls and adolescents in the national educational system,” they detailed.
Another institution that spoke out on the matter was the Municipality of Otavalo, expressing four specific things:
We reject vigorously all types of violence, especially the case of physical aggression against a student from the República del Ecuador Educational Unit in our canton, with whom we stand in solidarity. We reaffirm our commitment with the guarantee of the rights of all people, especially children and adolescents. We are drinking concrete measures to reinforce violence prevention and promote an environment of collective care in our community. We make a called the entire community to participate in a minga for peace, where together we can continue building a safe and peaceful environment.
In addition, they called an extraordinary session of the Council for the Protection of Rights to take the pertinent actions within their powers and “work to find concrete solutions and preventive measures.”
