The threat level in Belgium remains at level 3 on a scale of up to 4. The Coordination Body for Threat Analysis (OCAD) said this on Monday. Scaling up to the maximum level, such as in France, is not currently being considered, according to a spokesperson.

France decided on Sunday to raise the threat level, the so-called Vigipirate Plan, to the highest level, after the attack in Moscow that killed at least 137 people. That attack was claimed by the terrorist organization IS.

In Belgium, the threat level remains unchanged at 3. This means that the threat is “serious”. The threat level in Belgium has been at that level since October 16, after the attack in Brussels in which two Swedish football fans were killed. The level has been maintained since then, partly due to tensions in the Middle East and an increase in anti-Semitism.

The highest threat level, level 4, implies that the threat is “very serious and imminent”. That level is currently not justified, the OCAD says.
