Truck breaks down LPG plant in Ghiare di Berceto: 5,500 liters of fuel are missing

On Sunday morning at about 5 o’clock, teams from the Parma fire brigade command and the Borgo Val di Taro volunteer detachment intervened for urgent technical assistance in Berceto, Ghiare, along the Fondovalle Taro provincial road due to a loss of LPG from a roadside fuel distribution plant.

The leak came from the LPG distribution column present in the system which was accidentally violently uprooted by a truck during a parking maneuver.

The breakage of the supply pipes and of some safety devices caused the gas to escape in the liquid phase with dispersion on the ground of about 5,500 liters of LPG.

The personnel who intervened intercepted the leak and made the plant and the surrounding areas safe by closing the adjacent roads, the neighboring toll booth of the A15 motorway and the Parma-La Spezia railway line.

Remediation operations followed in the plant and in some adjacent areas where the presence of LPG in dangerous concentrations was detected. No people were involved in the event and the safety measures ended at around 12.
