[Epoch Times December 26, 2021](Epoch Times reporter Xia Yu comprehensive report) Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated in an interview broadcast on Saturday (December 25) that the CCP used Commercial interests play with democratic countries, and like-minded countries should unite and oppose Beijing’s increasing “coercive diplomacy.”

In an interview with Global News Canada, Trudeau said that China (the CCP) has been “playing” with Western countries because they are competing with each other for China’s economic opportunities.

He told Global News Ottawa head of division Mercedes Stephenson (Mercedes Stephenson): “We are competing with each other. We are working hard to study how to make Canadian beef enter this country or that market better than Australian beef.”

“We have been competing. From time to time, China (the CCP) uses open market competition to let us compete very cleverly. We need to cooperate better and gain a firm foothold, so that China (the CCP) can’t, you know, play with it by all means. We, divide us into two,” he said.

At the request of the United States, Canada detained Huawei’s chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou in December 2018. The Chinese authorities subsequently detained two Canadians on national security charges. ), Canada-China relations have entered a trough.

In September of this year, shortly after Meng Wanzhou reached an agreement with US prosecutors, two Canadians were released.

Trudeau recalled the scene of his meeting when the two Canadians returned home and said that this was a “surprisingly emotional” moment.

“As a leader, as a prime minister, you want to do the right thing. You know what is the right thing, but you need to pay human costs.” He said.

“Under the terrible conditions where two Canadians were trapped, and completely arbitrarily (detention), there is at least one theoretical shortcut and behind-the-scenes trade to get them home, but I know, I think you have to do the right thing. We insist on doing the right thing.” Trudeau continued.

Trudeau said that he had worked hard to improve relations and trade between Canada and China in his early administration. But he said that Xi Jinping’s current China is “in some respects no longer the China we imagined ten or even five years ago.”

“We must be vigilant about this possibility and also pay attention to their mentality. This means that we will continue to challenge China (the Chinese Communist Party) in certain aspects-human rights, Hong Kong democracy, support for journalists, you know, no Interfere in the affairs of independent countries in Asia.”

But Trudeau said Canada must continue to cooperate with Beijing on key multilateral issues including climate change. “We will have to compete with China in a variety of ways, whether it is on the commercial level, trade agreements, goods and services-we must think carefully.”

He also said that he is cooperating with China on the decarbonization of the global economy.

Trudeau said in a year-end interview with CTV’s Evan Solomon on December 19 that China (the CCP) is a “major challenge”, but he evaded whether he considers the Beijing regime a threat.

Solomon asked Trudeau in an interview: “Given that David Cohen, the new U.S. ambassador to Canada, recently stated that China (the Chinese Communist regime) is the greatest threat to the U.S., do you think so too?”

In response, Trudeau said that although the Chinese Communist regime is considered a major challenge, there are other challenges that are equally major, including the “rise of an authoritarian state.” He said: “The same is true for cyber attacks, and so is Russia in Ukraine. Democracies like Canada and our open trading system in the world that are affected by supply chain challenges are facing many international challenges. There are many challenges, of course China. Is one of them.”

Earlier this month, Canada followed the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom in a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
