Borussia Dortmund is in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time in eleven years. The memorable game against Atletico Madrid has many winners. One is Niclas Füllkrug, who gives a euphoric and honest interview.
Managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke reacted with great joy to Borussia Dortmund’s first semi-final appearance in the Champions League in eleven years. “It is of course a proud day for all Borussia players,” said the 64-year-old after the 4-2 (2-0) win in the quarter-final second leg against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday. The drama of the game did not go unnoticed by Watzke. “It was a roller coaster ride,” he said: “A really great evening.”
Goal scorer Niclas Füllkrug also raved: “It was really magical today. The stadium was on fire.” The striker was extremely touched by what he had achieved and the great atmosphere in the sold-out arena. Füllkrug recently had to go through nine competitive games without scoring his own goal, but now he scored with a beautiful header to make it 3-2.

Füllkrug: “I arrived here on August 30th in a situation in which it wasn’t always easy and then I tried to always give my best performance. The coach and the team always supported me.”

Julian Brandt, who scored the 1-0, was also full of joy. “Nights like this are special, this Champions League season in particular is special,” said Brandt. “Seeing all these happy faces here in the stadium is pure satisfaction.”

Paris Saint-Germain is now waiting as an opponent in the semi-finals. The French series champion won the second leg at FC Barcelona 4:1 (1:1) and made up for the 2:3 from the first leg.
