According to a report by Yangcheng Evening News reporter Chai Zhi, the announcement was made during the 2024 Chinese Athletics Association Road Running Working Conference held in Wuxi, Jiangsu on March 22. The year 2023 was a standout year for road racing in China, with a record-breaking 699 large-scale events attracting over 6 million participants. The Guangzhou Marathon, which has been held ten times since its inception in 2012, stood out for its professionalism, high standards, and quality services.

In recognition of its excellence, the Guangzhou Marathon was selected as one of the 84 typical cases of road running events in 2023 by the Chinese Athletics Association.
