Without pressure, Germany’s handball players played strongly again in the last Olympic qualifying game and gave Paraguay no chance. On Sunday (April 14th, 2024) the DHB team in Neu-Ulm landed an unchallenged 37:20 (19:13) against the outsider.
National coach Markus Gaugisch’s team had already qualified for the Olympic handball tournament the day before with a win against Montenegro for the first time in 16 years.

Right winger Jenny Behrend (6 goals) was the best thrower for the selection of the German Handball Federation (DHB). Germany achieved decisive victories in the fight for its first Olympic participation in 16 years on Thursday against Slovenia (31:25) and on Saturday against Montenegro (28:24). With their third success, the team finished the tournament in first place.

The victory against the South Americans was never in danger. Gaugisch did without goalkeeper Katharina Filter, who was outstanding in the two key games, as well as left winger Antje Döll and pivot Julia Behnke. The final intensity was not in the game.
The aim of the Olympic tournament (July 25th to August 11th) in Paris and Lille is to reach the final round. The twelve participating nations will be divided into the two preliminary round groups in the draw on Tuesday. “If the team survives the preliminary round, they also see a chance in the quarter-finals. Then let’s see how far we get,” said DHB President Andreas Michelmann.
