The first Shanghai Sailing Open sets sail on the Huangpu River

Workers Daily Client, Shanghai, 26th (Workers Daily-China Industry Network reporter Liu Bing) – The first Shanghai Sailing Open officially kicked off with a grand opening ceremony on the picturesque waters of the Huangpu River in Shanghai. The event, which will run until March 31, witnessed the stunning sight of 15 J80 sailboats, 8 ILCA6 sailboats, and 3 catamaran sailboats gracefully gliding against the waves, displaying their prowess and elegance.

Shanghai, with its century-old sailing history, has revived the “Top Sail” event this year, bringing back the maritime legacy of the city. The event is organized by the Chinese Sailing and Windsurfing Association, Shanghai Sports Bureau, Pudong New Area People’s Government, Hongkou District People’s Government, Huangpu District People’s Government, Lingang New Area Management Committee, and Donghao Lansheng (Group) Co., Ltd. The participation of 35 ILCA6-class boats and 25 J80-class boats, along with 300 international sailing athletes, has added a global flavor to the event.

In addition to the thrilling sailing competitions, a sailing event village has been set up along the Hongkou waterfront area, offering a host of activities such as sailing culture exhibitions, marine public welfare initiatives, leisure and entertainment options, and interactive experiences. The event also collaborates with the China Maritime Museum to showcase racing sailboats and sailing items, allowing citizens to delve into the world of sailing and its intricacies.

The Shanghai Sailing Open aims to establish itself as a prominent international sailing event, aligning with renowned competitions worldwide. Together with the Shanghai Marathon and the Shanghai Rowing Open, the event aims to promote the city’s image and spirit while advocating for green and sustainable practices. By emphasizing the relationship between sports and sustainability, the event sets a precedent for future sports events to prioritize environmental conservation.
