Luca Brecel proved himself to be a worthy world champion at the World Masters in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday afternoon. A brilliant Brecel booked a ticket for the final against Ronnie O’Sullivan thanks to an impressive win against Mark Allen (4-2).
The lightning-fast table in Riyadh clearly brings out the best in the world‘s top players. The level is extremely high at the World Masters, and the match between world champion Luca Brecel and world number three Mark Allen was no exception.
Brecel immediately opened up the decisive gap with breaks of 72 and 71, and in frame two he also had to win a safety battle on yellow to lead to 2-0. Despite two centuries (121 and 133), Allen would not close the gap again. Because Brecel also made his first century of the tournament (125) and finished the job in the sixth frame after what colleague Jack Lisowski called the best pot of the tournament. The tall red led into the decisive 82 break, this was world champion level.

“If he plays like this in Sheffield, Luca will be difficult to beat at the World Cup next month,” loser Mark Allen praised his opponent afterwards. Brecel gratefully accepted the compliment. “As I said yesterday: I feel good and I’m playing better and better. You can only make that great pot in the final frame if you are at the table with confidence and that is absolutely the case again.”
On Wednesday evening at 9 p.m., Brecel will face Ronnie O’Sullivan (WR 1) in the final. As a finalist, he already has 146,000 euros in his pocket, and that amount will be doubled if he wins a tournament.
