After the first day of the 470 European Championships, Lara Vadlau/Lukas Mähr are in 16th place ahead of San Remo. The duo finished fifth in their fleet in their first race on Monday. Vadlau/Mähr also got off to a good start in the second race, but after two big wind shifts they lost a few places and only finished 17th.
“The first race was solid. In the second race, unlike our competitors, we saw two big wind shifts too late. That cost us a lot of positions and the result isn’t satisfactory either. We analyzed the race straight away and will attack again tomorrow with what we have learned,” said crewman Mähr. Three races are planned for Tuesday.
The second OeSV boat with Rosa Donner/Niklas Haberl sailed in the other fleet and is in 49th place. The duo, newly formed since the beginning of the year, ended up in 20th and 30th place. “Unfortunately, we failed at both starts. In the first race we tried to sail our way free and were able to make up a few places. In the second race we were even at the end of the field. The conditions were anything but easy, but we fought for every place,” helmswoman Donner analyzed.
