【News Highlights】Visiting and Talking Differences, Great Japan Military Exercises | Xi Jinping | Taiwan Public Opinions | Japanese Exercises

[Epoch Times September 11, 2021]Hello everyone, and welcome everyone to pay attention to “News Highlights”. I am Li Muyang. Today is September 10 (Friday) Eastern Time, and September 11 (Saturday) Asia Time.

Today’s focus: The call to visit Xi has scored twice to ensure that there is no conflict; the United States and China have their own words, Xi Jinping has taught Biden? The meetings between Xi and Xi are misty, and Taiwan’s issues are clearly divided; Japan is forced to show its sword and exercises under the pandemic; nearly 90% oppose one country, two systems, and Taiwan’s public opinion is unprecedentedly high; humanity is good.

The New York Times reported on the 9th that two international scientific journals “International Legal Medicine” and “Human Genetics” have recently withdrawn two Chinese papers on the DNA of Xinjiang Uyghurs. The reason is that it is impossible to be sure whether the research meets international ethical standards, including whether the subjects are fully informed and agree.

The latest research by the US cybersecurity company “Broadcom Symantec” found that a Trojan horse virus named “Pedestrian Road” is related to the Chinese Communist spy organization. This hacker group has been engaged in espionage operations since at least March 2017.

Reuters reported on the 10th that as China-Australia political and economic relations continued to deteriorate, the Chinese Embassy in Australia submitted a report on the impact of joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement on China-Australia trade at the request of the Australian Parliament. It shows that the position of the CCP is quite embarrassing.

The Japan Broadcasting Association reported that Taro Kono, the Minister of Administrative Reform, officially announced on the 10th that he would run for the next president of the Liberal Democratic Party. This is an official who holds a tough stance on the CCP.

The Blackstone Group of the United States originally planned to acquire SOHO China, a Chinese real estate developer, for US$3 billion. However, after the Chinese Communist Party’s regulatory authorities filed a case for review in accordance with the Anti-Monopoly Law in August, this highly concerned acquisition was confirmed to fall through on the 10th. SOHO China announced on the afternoon of the 10th that the Blackstone Group decided not to make an offer for the acquisition of the company’s equity.

As of 1 p.m. Eastern time on September 10, the number of newly diagnosed CCP viruses (Wuhan virus, COVID-19) globally has reached 629,011, and the total number of confirmed cases reached 223,995,380; 9,378 deaths in a single day, The cumulative total number of deaths is 4,619,829.

Let’s enter today’s topic. With the overall deterioration of US-China relations, Biden and Xi Jinping scored twice and conducted a second telephone conversation. However, this telephone meeting did not improve US-China relations, and the differences between the two sides are still very obvious, especially on the Taiwan issue.

At a time when the US-China relationship is difficult to restore, Japan has also shed its sword on the CCP. Starting on the 15th, all troops will participate in large-scale military exercises, and their swords will be directed at the CCP.

It is not easy to invite Xi to make a call and score twice

Yesterday (9th) night, Biden and Xi Jinping had a second call. This is the second call after 7 months after the first call on February 11. The duration of the call is about 90 minutes, focusing on economic topics, climate change, and the new crown epidemic.

From many perspectives, the conversation between Biden and Xi Jinping was “familiar” and “frank”. In fact, this is not difficult to understand, the two of them are not unfamiliar. In addition to a phone call 7 months ago, as early as when Biden was the vice president, he often had conversations with Xi Jinping, and even at that time the two had a good personal relationship.

The US media quoted White House officials as saying that this call was initiated by Biden. However, the two achieved a second telephone meeting, and after repeated discussions between the lower-level officials of the two sides, it was finally reached.

“Washington Post” quoted a senior U.S. government official as saying that although the relationship between the two countries is very controversial, the call last night represented an attempt to maintain this relationship.

The official stated that US officials “have been in contact with Chinese officials on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, they (Chinese Communist officials) are unwilling to engage in serious or substantive dialogue.”

The “Washington Post” specifically pointed out that the American official used the English abbreviation “PRC” for “People’s Republic of China” here, which is the official name of communist China.

The US official also said that Biden and Xi Jinping not only talked about the important issue of leadership communication, but also talked about the possibility of them having private conversations. However, the official would not predict whether the calls between worship and Xi will increase in the future.

The official said that the United States regards competition with China as its primary foreign policy concern, but also hopes to work on common interests — such as climate change — instead of letting things go to the point of direct conflict. However, it is not necessary to reach a specific agreement or result through this call.

Did the U.S. and China talk about each other and “instruct” Biden?

In this conversation between the leaders of the two countries, both the United States and China mentioned one point. In this “extensive and strategic” dialogue, the two discussed ensuring that “competition does not fall into conflict.”

The Chinese Communist Party’s official media said that this sentence came from Biden’s mouth. The White House statement also proved this point. In addition, in the description of other aspects, both sides said different things, showing that there are many differences.

The White House’s statement has only five sentences in total, but the first sentence only says that the two parties had a conversation, and the next four sentences are the content of the conversation between the two parties, but they are relatively general.

The statement stated that the two parties had exchanges in the “fields of convergence of interests” and “differentiated areas of interests, values, and opinions”; they agreed to deal with these two types of issues frankly and honestly; this call was made by the United States to responsibly manage the competition between the United States and China. Part; Biden emphasized the “lasting interests of peace, stability, and prosperity” of the United States in the Indo-Pacific region and the world; also discussed ensuring that the two sides “will not fall into conflict.”

On the other hand, the CCP media reports seem to be more specific, but it is mainly what Xi Jinping said. And looking at what Xi Jinping said, almost all of the reasons why Sino-US relations have fallen to the bottom have been pushed to the United States. It seems that there is a “condescending” feeling towards Biden.

The Chinese Communist Party’s official media stated in a report today (10th) that Xi Jinping indicated to Biden that the current Sino-US relations are difficult and the problems originate from the US. “The U.S. policy towards China has caused serious difficulties in Sino-U.S. relations. This does not conform to the fundamental interests of the two peoples and the common interests of all countries in the world.”

The report also stated that Xi Jinping explained to Biden that the actions of the United States are not good for any party. “Whether the two sides can handle each other’s relations well is at stake for the future and destiny of the world. It is the question of the century that the two countries must answer.” U.S.-China cooperation will benefit all parties, and confrontation will bring disaster to the world. “China-US relations are not a multiple-choice question of whether to do a good job, but a must-answer question of how to do a good job.”

What Xi Jinping said from the official media is like the “teaching” of the elders to the younger generation, or the “instructions” of the superiors to the subordinates. The Chinese Communist Party’s official media also claimed that these words of Xi Jinping were “golden sentences.” However, US officials said, “Basically, Beijing’s speeches are usually thunderous and rainy, and actions are not as powerful as words.”

In addition, the CCP’s official media reports are quite interesting. Xinhua News Agency reported that Biden made a series of “promises” to China. These include “the U.S. has no intention to change the one-China policy”, “willing to have more frank exchanges and constructive dialogues with China”, “make sure that the two sides avoid misunderstandings and misjudgments and unexpected conflicts”, “push U.S.-China relations back on track” and so on.

However, these contents were only reported by the Chinese Communist Party’s official media, and no trace was seen in the White House briefing. I don’t know if the White House deliberately obscured this part, or the CCP’s official media added fuel to it. I think everyone should have their own distinction.

As I said before, the evil of the CCP’s media is that it does not completely report false news. If the news it reports is all lies, people will see through it at once.

When it reports, it always deliberately misrepresents some of the facts, mixing true and false. This will make people confused which is true and which is false. People who don’t know the truth are often confused by the CCP’s propaganda. The CCP uses this method to confuse the public to achieve its purpose of propagating to the people and fooling the people.

The visit to Xi’s meeting is still misty, and the Taiwan issue is divided

Judging from the arguments of both sides, the communication between Biden and Xi Jinping has not yielded any results, and the differences between the United States and China are still quite obvious. Frozen three feet is not a cold day. There are too many differences and contradictions between the United States and China, and it is impossible to completely resolve them with a single phone call.

Therefore, it is conceivable that frictions and conflicts between the United States and China in various fields will still be inevitable in the future, and the smell of gunpowder may even be stronger. It’s just that both parties may work hard to control and prevent the friction from developing into a gunfire or even causing conflict.

It should be pointed out here that “the two countries ensure that the competition will not fall into conflict” is from Biden’s mouth, but in fact this is exactly what Beijing wants to see.

Because in the face of the powerful military of the United States, the CCP army is vulnerable, not to mention that the United States has allies like NATO. That’s why the CCP emphasizes that Biden took the initiative to say that the purpose is to create such an environment of public opinion to restrict the United States from not doing anything and avoiding conflict. This is exactly what the CCP wants.

This means that the U.S. and China may be more of a “war of words” of mutual accusation and criticism. In other words, the CCP will continue to toss “unchanged”. Externally, it may continue the “wolf war” diplomacy and be aggressive; internally, it will still suppress dissidents and suppress goodness.

The United States may continue to be tough in all areas and unite its allies to counter the CCP. However, there is one point to make here. The last sentence of the White House statement actually reveals some tough messages.

“The two countries ensure that the competition will not fall into conflict.” This is obviously a warning to the CCP in the tone of “the strong” against the “weak”. It means that the United States does not want conflicts, but it is not afraid of conflicts, so you have to do it yourself. If you continue to misbehave, the United States is not afraid of conflict.

The Voice of America quoted US officials as saying that on Hong Kong, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Taiwan issues related to universal values, although the CCP believes that the United States is interfering in its internal affairs, the “Biden administration will not back down” and the United States will stick to these issues. Values.

In this case, the first face-to-face meeting between Biden and Xi Jinping seemed very difficult. The outside world has predicted that during the G20 summit in Rome next month, the first “visit meeting” is expected to appear.

But now it seems that the first meeting between the pair of former “old friends” has become quite uncertain. So far, Xi Jinping has not set foot in China for 600 days, and the vague face-to-face meeting with Biden may also mean that he will continue to extend this time.

It can be inferred from this that contradictions may continue to emerge between the United States and China, or between the CCP and Western countries, and rifts may continue to deepen. Especially on the issue of Taiwan, the United States and China have not narrowed their differences.

Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post quoted diplomatic observers analyzing that Xi Jinping and Biden were trying to ease tensions, but their statements on the Taiwan issue later formed a sharp contrast.

Observers pointed out that Beijing claimed that Biden “has no intention of changing the one-China” policy, but Washington did not mention Taiwan or the one-China policy. This means that the United States and China have not made any substantive changes on the Taiwan issue, and both agree that the two sides have differences.

Japan is forced to carry out military exercises under the epidemic

Speaking of the confrontation between the CCP and the Western international community, Japan announced yesterday (9th) that all Japanese troops will participate in field exercises from September 15th and continue until late November.

Both the “Southern Japan Shimbun” and the “Fuji Evening News” reported today (10th) that the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force stated yesterday that about 100,000 self-defense personnel deployed in Shikoku, Hokkaido and other regions, including the US Army generals stationed in Japan Participate in this exercise. The statement stated that a total of about 20,000 ground vehicles and 120 aircraft will participate.

The location of the exercise was concentrated in the Kyushu area. Japanese media reported that this exercise is the first time such a large-scale military exercise has been organized since 1993. The purpose is to prepare for changes in the situation of the Senkaku Islands and other islands in southern Japan, mainly to “enhance the ability to respond to China’s (CCP) maritime activities.”

The “Senkaku Islands” mentioned by the Japanese media are what China calls the “Diaoyu Islands.” There have been disputes between China and Japan in this area. The Ministry of Defense of Japan stated in its “Defense White Paper” in July this year that the “Senkaku Islands” are part of Japanese territory.

But China calls this part of China’s territory. Among them, the spokesman of the Chinese Communist Party’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zhao Lijian, once said that the Diaoyu Islands are an inalienable part of Chinese territory.

As we all know, Japan was a defeated country in World War II. According to international law, Japan cannot have an army, but can only have a self-defense force. However, under the raging epidemic in Japan, Japan is determined to hold military exercises for all its troops. It should be said that it is not easy and quite unusual. Obviously, the CCP had no choice but to “bright the sword” against the CCP.

Japanese military journalist Chao Kuangren believes that although autumn is a suitable period for military exercises, the ground self-defense forces held large-scale exercises about 30 years later. It is undoubtedly that Japan is aware of China (the movement of the CCP).

Japan’s last nationwide military exercise dates back at least 28 years ago. In 28 years, the relationship between Japan and the CCP has undergone tremendous changes. In the past, China was a recipient of a large amount of Japanese economic aid. Now it has become the world‘s second largest economy, surpassing Japan and second only to the United States.

The CCP’s annual defense budget is even more amazing, not only surpassing Japan, but also reaching five times that of Japan’s defense budget. When this kind of power is reversed, the CCP has often harassed and challenged Japan around the Diaoyu Islands and other issues. The CCP’s ships often harass the sea area currently under Japanese administrative jurisdiction. This makes Japan increasingly uneasy.

At the end of last month (August 31), the Ministry of Defense of Japan substantially increased its defense budget for 2022. It is prepared to use Japan’s highest ever defense fund of approximately US$50 billion to accelerate the upgrading of its military capabilities and respond to the enormous challenges brought about by the expansion of the Chinese Communist Party’s military power.

Japan’s large-scale exercise actually has another reason, that is, the CCP’s military threats and military harassment against Taiwan have also made Japan quite uneasy.

The day before yesterday (8th), Japanese Deputy Defense Minister Yasuhide Nakayama attended a seminar held in Taiwan and said that Taiwan and Japan are very close, like nose to mouth. Therefore, Japan will treat Taiwan’s peace and stability as its own business, and it cannot be the business of others.

This is the second time that Taixiu Zhongshan has made such a statement. As early as June of this year, when he attended a think tank seminar in Washington, he bluntly stated that “the democratic country Taiwan is not only an ally of Japan, but also a brother, and belongs to the same big family.” He said that Taiwan is adjacent to the Japanese island of Okinawa, where there are US military bases, and therefore “must be awakened” against the CCP’s attempt to occupy Taiwan.

Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi also issued a warning on August 2 that the CCP is trying to “encircle Taiwan.” Through the British “Financial Times”, it called on the international community to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait.

In addition, when Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga visited the United States in April this year, he emphasized the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait for the first time in the Japan-US Joint Statement.

Taiwan’s public opinion soars by nearly 90% against one country, two systems

In fact, the CCP’s continuous harassment of Taiwan has played the opposite role to what the CCP had imagined. The CCP hopes to use force threats and other means to cause internal division in Taiwan, and then take advantage of the situation to infiltrate Taiwan, and finally capture Taiwan. But the CCP’s calculation was wrong again, and now Taiwan’s anti-Communist public opinion is rising.

Yesterday (9th), Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council announced the results of a routine poll. It shows that 87.5% of Taiwanese oppose “one country, two systems,” and 89.4% of the people support the defense of national sovereignty and Taiwan’s democracy, and they oppose Beijing’s diplomatic suppression of Taiwan.

The survey conducted by the Research Center of National Chengchi University of Taiwan also showed that 88.8% of the people in Taiwan opposed the CCP’s repeated economic and diplomatic means to pressure Lithuania after Lithuania agreed to allow Taiwan to establish a representative office under the name of “Taiwan”.

These data fully reflect Taiwan’s public opinion. As early as March this year, the Mainland Affairs Council conducted the same poll. Among them, 74.9% of the people in Taiwan do not agree with the “92 Consensus” of the “One China Principle”, and 88.2% of the people oppose the CCP’s proposal of “one country, two systems” to achieve cross-strait reunification.

In fact, the people in Taiwan have always strongly doubted and opposed the so-called “one country, two systems.” The lessons learned from Hong Kong have already shown examples to all Taiwanese.

Hong Kong was handed over sovereignty in the name of “one country, two systems,” and then Hong Kong’s free space was gradually narrowed. Especially after the implementation of the National Security Law, Hong Kong no longer has democracy and freedom. Democrats are being persecuted by the CCP. The experience of the Hong Kong people has made the people of Taiwan feel the same, so there is no market for “one country, two systems”.

Coupled with the recent changes in Afghanistan, the Chinese Communist Party’s official media hype the United States‘ unreliable commitments to Taiwan, etc., and the offensive tactics against Taiwan have also intensified the rise of public opinion in Taiwan. I agree more with the views put forward by the Taiwan authorities: Taiwan’s only option is to make itself stronger, more united, and more determined to defend itself.

Goodness in Human Nature: Drumstick Bento

Next, I will share with you a story of “goodness in human nature”.

Ash’s father was a farmer in Xiaying Township, Tainan County, and he had never read a book. I only know that the family has to rely on him to work hard in the fields. When waiting for the autumn harvest, the harvest in the fields is the “fact” of the family’s food and clothing.

That year, Ah Shan was admitted to Jianzhong. There was no cheers from family members, no firecrackers, or blessings and congratulations to worship the ancestors; some were just discussing the “possibility” of continuing to study with their parents.

“You bastard, don’t come back to me wherever you go! Go and die!” His father threw the hoe on the ground angrily, and said angrily. “囝仔” is Taiwanese, meaning a child.

Ah Shan, who was eager to learn, walked away with a simple bag without looking back. He thought to himself: “Father doesn’t know how to educate at all, let alone the importance of reading. Maybe my father doesn’t know what love is at all.” Thinking like this in his heart, tears quietly wet his eyes.

Holding the loan from the middle school teacher in his hand, and the little money that his father had secretly saved with his mother on his back, Ah Shan sat alone on the northbound train. Tears fell again and again, and they were blown dry by the wind on the Jianan Plain again and again.

Later, the teacher of the school came to the home again and again to persuade his father, and his father calmed down his anger about not getting a job after graduating from middle school.

At the end of the first semester, Ah Shan returned home on holiday. Father didn’t greet him with a smile, but coldly told him that there was a chicken leg bento bought from the street in the kitchen cabinet. Go eat it quickly and take a bath in the pond after eating the morning ox. After the father finished speaking, he was still muttering: “The current businessmen are really profiteers. A bento cost 35 yuan, so expensive!”

Ah Shan was afraid of his father being angry. After recovering, he quickly walked into the kitchen to find the chicken drumstick bento. I haven’t eaten meat for a semester, and Ah Shan no longer knows the taste of meat! He gulped the fragrant bento, always chewing and chewing before he was willing to slowly swallow it into his stomach.

While eating, Ah Shan was still thinking: “Father really doesn’t know how to love, let alone the education of love.”

In this way, one semester is over. That year, when Ah Shan finished eating the eighteenth drumstick bento, he graduated with a master’s degree. Then Ah Shan went to serve as a soldier, and his mother sent him to the station to take a ride. His father still “relentlessly” working in the field, and seemed to ignore Ah Shan.

After working as a soldier, Ah Shan was successfully admitted to the doctoral program of the Institute, married a beautiful and virtuous master wife, and gave birth to a lovely daughter. Every time a family of three returned to their hometown in the countryside, his father would only welcome him with two chicken drumsticks, without saying a word, and then go down to the fields alone.

At that moment, Ah Shan thought to himself: “Accept your fate! This old farmer knows nothing. If education in Taiwan is not reformed, there will be more education that only knows how to beat and curse, but doesn’t know love; there will definitely be more like yourself. The same tragedy.”

Every time he goes home, Ash’s heart will think of the same question: “It’s better to have a foreign educational philosophy, knowing love, and democracy.” So he decided to apply for funding to the National Science Council and move to the UK to move some “new ideas”. “Come back to “save the country.”

When I went abroad, my father was seriously ill and was in a very bad condition, so he could only lie at home. Ah Shan’s third and fourth brothers kept making overseas calls, but it was always difficult to get in touch with Ah Shan. After finally getting in touch, after learning that his father was critically ill, Ash hurriedly arranged a plane to rush home.

The father knew that the child might not be able to see the last time because of the flight problem. So he confessed to the other sons: “Before the youngest member returns, don’t bury me too soon. This is not good for the people in his house.” The sons followed the father’s last words, and after the father passed away, they first used the ice store to freeze. His remains.

When Ah Shan returned to Taiwan, he immediately called a taxi and went straight to home. But at this time, he was separated from his father forever. Looking at his father’s legacy, Ah Shan had mixed feelings, and her heart was filled with sorrow and grief.

The scenes from the past appeared in Ah Shan’s mind for an instant. Father Yan used to work hard in the fields, herding cattle and grazing, wasn’t it for the sake of food and clothing for the family? Hit children, isn’t it afraid that the children will learn badly? Scenes and scenes caught in my heart, Ah Shan couldn’t help crying bitterly.

After crying for a long time, the third brother came over to help the crying brother and told him to eat in the kitchen first. Ah Shan is indeed a little tired and wants to drink some water. He walked into the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, and found that it was filled with chicken drumsticks that were not too fresh.
