Found dead in a park in Ukraine Vitaly Shishov, the head of an organization that helps Belarusians who fled abroad to escape Lukashenko’s repression to find accommodation and a job. There has been no news of Shishov since yesterday morning when he went out for a run.
For some time there were “strangers” to follow him when he was jogging, friends have denounced as reported on Telegram by the Vyasna organization. The police have launched an investigation into suspected murder, but do not rule out any possibility. Among the most accredited hypotheses is that of a murder disguised as suicide. “Belarusian citizen Vitaly Shishov, who disappeared yesterday, was found hanged today in Kiev, not far from his place of residence,” reads the police statement.
News of the activist’s death comes after Poland granted a visa on humanitarian grounds to Belarusian Olympic athlete Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, who opposed a reported forced return attempt from Tokyo. The athlete’s husband said he fled Belarus to Kiev and hopes to be reunited with his wife in Poland soon.
