Pritam Singh, the leader of the opposition in Singapore’s parliament, was on Tuesday accused of having lied during a hearing before a parliamentary commission with investigative powers that examines cases relating to abuses of power that Singaporean delegates commit in the exercise of their duties.
The facts date back to 2022, when Singh was called to testify before the commission as part of an investigation involving Raeesah Khan (at the time a member of the party of which Singh is secretary, the centre-left Workers’ Party), who on that occasion she was accused of lying about a case of sexual assault. According to the commission, Khan was tricked into lying by Singh himself.
Singh announced that, until the commission’s ruling, he will continue to carry out his duties as parliamentarian and leader of the opposition.
