Neck pain, commonly (and erroneously) also referred to as “cervical”, is a disorder due to various causes. It can be a sign of important problems, such as cervical hernias, arthrosis or spondylosis, or due to posture defects.

It seems trivial, yet the position we take during the day, especially if we do a sedentary job, greatly affects the health of our spine. In fact, we must be careful because neck pain can result from this stupid mistake that we make every day.

Lack of movement and incorrect positions taken during work are among the main causes of neck and head pain. Despite this, however, a scientific study gives hope and provides a practical and simple solution to reduce these problems.

A solution to solve the problem

The University of Turin conducted a study on 2,000 municipal employees of the city, forced to maintain a sedentary position for several hours a day. Half of them took part in a 7-month educational program developed by researchers from the San Giovanni Battista University Hospital of Turin. Meanwhile, the other half of the employees continued to go about their usual everyday life. The employees had to perform postural and relaxation exercises, in the office and at home, and the results were very positive.

Amazing results

The effects of the experiment were truly amazing. At the end of the 7 months, those who followed the program noticed a decrease in headache by as much as 34%. Pain in the neck and shoulders was reduced by 29%, and consequently the use of analgesic drugs was also reduced by 29%. But how was all this possible?

Practical and quick exercises

One of the typical exercises performed is to position yourself close to the wall, with your back and shoulders firmly attached to the wall and with your feet together. You will need to tilt your head forward and then bring it back to an upright position.

This is just one of the examples proposed during this study. In any case, it is not recommended to perform any exercise independently without first consulting the opinion of a specialist.
