Combination therapy can delay the development of resistance in lung cancer cells

A certain genetic change, a so-called ALK fusion, is the cause of non-small cell lung cancer in some patients. This abnormality leads to excessive activity of the ALK protein, a key cancer driver. These tumors can be stopped by an ALK inhibitor – but the cancer cells quickly develop resistance to the active ingredient.
