Over 28,000 dentists together with 6,700 primary care pediatricians for a shared project aimed at four million young patients and dedicated to health education, prevention and local medicine. It was the theme at the center of the meeting at the Ministry of Health between Undersecretary Marcello Gemmato, the president of the National Association of Italian Dentists (ANDI), Carlo Ghirlanda, and the president of the Italian Federation of Pediatric Doctors (Fimp), Antonio D’ Avino, in the presence of the Hon. Matteo Rosso.
The two associations illustrated to the undersecretary the initiatives promoted to create prevention and treatment paths aimed at the correct care of individuals in developmental age, “a fundamental moment – they underline in a note – to intercept and prevent problems that could jeopardize the health and quality of future life”. Specifically, the intention was illustrated to include an assessment in the health assessments, specifically prepared by Andi, for the detection by the family pediatrician of any dento-skeletal malformations. Based on what the pediatrician finds, the dentist will then confirm the need for orthodontic therapy on the young patient. Another topic on the working table is that relating to autism spectrum disorders, on which Andi and Fimp have expressed their desire to create common information and training paths.
“A wide-ranging conversation, in which the Hon. Gemmato – we read in the note – shared the actions illustrated by the two associations, highlighting the political will, widely reciprocated by the professions, to promote territorial initiatives in which proximity medicine, present today with dentists and paediatricians, involves the involvement of family medicine, in order to be able to carry out an effective health education and primary prevention activity”.
Gemmato, the associations conclude, “has, finally, promoted further actions aimed at specifically encouraging the progressive redevelopment of urban areas with greater needs”.
