Monkeypox in Tuscany, “no alarm, vaccine needed”

“No alarmism about monkeypox after the cases recorded in Florence, but it is clear that vaccination must be recommended to people with HIV infection and to those people who belong to the risk categories clearly identified by the press releases of the Ministry of Health and the Region” .

This is what infectious disease specialist Pierluigi Blanc said, after the ten cases of infection that occurred in the province. “The virus called monkeypox in medical-scientific jargon – explains Blanc – is not easily transmitted: outside of intimate relationships its transmission is not common. It follows that its diffusion is not high”.
