The Pirate Party criticizes the planned closure of two further emergency practices in the Rems-Murr district by the Baden-Württemberg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVBW) as a serious step backwards in emergency care for citizens. The merger of the medical on-call services at the Rems-Murr Clinic in Winnenden creates a gap in care, which means long and arduous journeys, especially for the population on the other side of the district.

District councilor Philip Köngeter from the Pirates clearly expresses the party’s concerns: “The decision to reduce emergency care to a single emergency practice for the entire district of 433,000 people is completely incomprehensible to us. This concept ignores the basic needs of the citizens Citizens seek close and accessible medical care in emergencies.”

The closure affects the previous emergency practices in Schorndorf and Backnang, which, despite the proven cross-sector emergency care, will not be reopened or will not continue to operate in the long term. This decision follows a ruling by the Federal Social Court, which led to a restructuring of the medical on-call service, but without sufficient consideration of the real needs and previous successes in emergency care in the Rems-Murr district.

The Pirate Party shares the criticism of the district administrator, the Rems-Murr Clinics and the mayors concerned, which was expressed in various statements. The closure of the emergency practices not only leads to an increased burden on the emergency rooms in Winnenden and Schorndorf, but also to significantly less accessibility to emergency care for a large part of the population.

“It is essential that the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians rethink its plans and, together with everyone involved, find a solution that ensures comprehensive emergency care close to home throughout the entire district,” demands Köngeter. “We stand for a modern, citizen-friendly policy that sees access to medical care as a fundamental right. The current development in the Rems-Murr district runs counter to these principles.”

The Pirate Party appeals to the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians to reconsider the plans to close emergency practices and to enter into a constructive dialogue with all those affected. The aim must be to ensure emergency care that meets the needs of citizens and does not create unreasonable hurdles.
