CHUNCHI

William Salazar, legal representative of the ‘Bio-Lac’ plant and main partner of the ‘Capulis Pamba’ association, announced a milestone expected for decades by the inhabitants of the Chunchi canton: the imminent opening of a modern dairy plant. This news has generated great expectations among local residents, who eagerly await the start of operations.

Those interested will be able to find the plant located 5 km from the Callanga-Charron road in Chunchi, province of Chimborazo.

With practically 100% of the infrastructure already installed and having successfully passed the quality tests of its products, the Bio-Lac plant is ready to begin producing a wide range of dairy products, including milk in a sheath, cheese, yogurt, butter, mozzarella cheese, and other dairy products.

The strategic location of Chunchi, recognized as an important milk producing center, has been decisive for the establishment of this plant, whose initiative has been supported by around 40 partners, including local milk producers, specialized technicians in the sector, engineers in food, zootechnical engineers, agronomists and veterinarians. This diversity of talent reflects the community’s commitment and dedication to this project. “It is a dream come true for Chunchi to have its own dairy plant,” said Salazar. “For two decades we have worked hard to turn this vision into a tangible reality, and now we are ready to market our products and take the Chunchi name beyond our borders.”

The start of operations is scheduled for May 2024, with an initial production capacity of approximately 5,000 liters per day, although the plant has the capacity to reach up to 20,000 liters per day. The plant will be equipped to produce pasteurized milk and has all the necessary permits and barcodes to enter the market. Salazar also highlighted the plant’s commitment to local producers, ensuring that they will be paid a fair price for their milk, without haggling. In addition, it is planned to establish a livestock warehouse where producers will be able to purchase essential inputs, such as feed and deworming products, using milk as a form of payment. The Bio-Lac dairy plant hopes to become an engine of economic growth for Chunchi and its surroundings, with the intention of expanding to other neighboring cantons such as Cañar, Azuay and the Coast in the near future.
