British police have recovered a Ferrari that was stolen 30 years ago

The famous Formula One car driver Gerhard Berger’s luxury Ferrari car, which was stolen almost 30 years ago, has been recovered by the police.

The red Ferrari F512M was one of two Italian sports cars stolen in April 1995, while their drivers were at Imola, Italy, for a Formula One race (the San Marino Grand Prix).

The Metropolitan Police in the UK say authorities received a report from the car manufacturer in January this year.

The company checked a vehicle bought by an American citizen with the help of a British broker last year.

The Organized Vehicle Crime Unit discovered that the vehicle had been shipped to Japan shortly after it was stolen.

It was brought to the UK in late 2023. The police raided the car to seize it and prevent it from being recovered.

The other vehicle is still missing and no arrests have been made in connection with its theft.

Police Constable Mike Pulbeam, who led the investigation, said: ‘The stolen Ferrari had been missing for over 28 years. We managed to track it down in just four days. It is worth about 350,000 pounds.

‘Our investigation was painstaking and involved contacting authorities around the world.

‘We worked quickly with partners including the National Crime Agency as well as Ferrari and international car dealerships and this collaboration was instrumental in understanding the vehicle’s background and preventing it from being sent overseas.’

Scotland Yard’s Organized Vehicle Crime Unit recovered 418 stolen vehicles worth £31 million last year alone.
