Through the poverty alleviation efforts in the past few years, in 2020, all 95 poor households and 327 poor people in Jiangmen Village will be successfully lifted out of poverty. “This is the epitome of our party and country’s great achievements in poverty alleviation, and it is also the biggest gain of my native Miao sister in the 10 years since returning to my hometown.” She said.
Like many college students studying abroad, Yang Ning, who had just graduated from university ten years ago, had the opportunity to stay in the city to work and live. “After graduating from university in 2010, I actually got a chance to stay in the city and work, but at the same time, I also learned that my hometown is now selecting college student village officials.”
On the one hand, staying in the city for nine to five peaceful days, while returning to the small mountain village to face the unknown hardships, this was a difficult choice for Yang Ning, who had just graduated at the time. However, recalling his previous experience in Damiaoshan and his sense of responsibility as a communist to serve the people, Yang Ning decided to return to Damiaoshan in the end.
“The care and love of the niece from the small village and the poverty and backwardness of Damiao Mountain are always lingering in my mind. If I don’t go back, when will this poor root be pulled out? I am very thankful and proud to say that I made the most correct choice in my life at that time, which is to return to my hometown.” She said.

In the five years of working in the village, he worked with the grassroots cadres to strengthen the branch and promote the industry, and formulated the development idea of ”tea and fruit going up the mountain, green onion into the land, lotus root down the field, rural tourism, and product processing”. At the end of 2016, Shuijing Village established a village collective company to coordinate the planting of tea and fruit trees throughout the village, forming a planting scale of 1,200 acres of fruit forest, 1,000 acres of lotus root, and more than 300 acres of vegetables. In addition, under the leadership of the village collective company, Shuijing Village vigorously develops rural tourism, and has successively established the village collective lotus leaf tea, green tea comprehensive production workshop, and lotus root powder production workshop.
Through more than four years of hard work, the total sales income of Shuijing Village has exceeded 4 million yuan, more than 1.5 million land rents, and more than 1 million villagers’ wages. Rural tourism income was 3.5 million yuan, and 168 poor households bought shares and distributed 504,000 yuan in dividends. The per capita income of Shuijing Village has also increased from more than 3,000 yuan in 2014 to more than 10,000 yuan by the end of 2020.
Thousands of acres of lotus bloom, and the countryside is picturesque.
