Despite the inauguration, meat sellers in Valledupar are still waiting for their new space

More than a month ago, the Mello Castro administration inaugurated the new meat pavilion at the Valledupar Public Market. This project, which took 8 months to build and had an investment of close to $7,000 million, aimed to improve working conditions for the 80 meat vendors that operated in inadequate conditions.

However, despite the inauguration, the space has not yet been handed over to vendors. Liliana Zabaleta, manager of the Public Market, explained that they are waiting for the formal delivery of the space by the General Secretariat, and adjustments are being coordinated with the tenants to guarantee a uniform and functional environment.

We are waiting for the General Secretariat to formally hand over the space to us, because the activities have not started, because there are some details that must be coordinated with the tenants, they have already ordered the display cases to be made so that it is something uniform , the idea is to give height to the site because of how beautiful it turned out. There are some tubes that were needed for the meat sample, however, the engineer already made the model for us, which they support. “More than anything, they are details, location adjustments,” Zabaleta pointed out.

Meanwhile, vendors continue to operate under a tent inside the market, raising concerns about hygiene and quality in meat distribution. Although Zabaleta assures that the delivery process is underway and the remaining details are being worked out, some traders still express the need for more investments to improve the market infrastructure.

The new meat pavilion has technical specifications for health, space and equipment, including air conditioning, solar panels and display cases in each location. However, there are still aspects to adjust to ensure an optimal environment for sellers.

“It must be made clear that the work is in adequate condition for the vendors to carry out their work, but they are minimal things that are already being worked on so that the premises can be occupied by the meat sellers,” concluded Zabaleta.
