Dominican Organizations Reject Foreign Military Intervention in Haiti

Santo Domingo, March 22 (Prensa Latina) – Dominican organizations in solidarity with Haiti have spoken out against the idea of sending foreign soldiers to the neighboring territory, calling for an end to deportations from their country.

The Dominican Chapter of the Assembly of Caribbean Peoples delivered a document to the UN representation in Santo Domingo, urging the organization not to support a new military intervention in Port-au-Prince. Dozens of people gathered in front of the UN office, chanting “Solidarity with Haiti” and waving the Dominican flag in support.

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the Dominican Chapter highlighted the dire situation in Haiti, attributing it to the policies of domination and control by colonialist and imperialist powers. They accused the United States, France, and Canada of orchestrating the institutional dismantling of Haiti, leading to a series of crises and violence.

The Chapter expressed concerns over the proposed intervention under UN cover, stating that it would not provide a lasting solution and only exacerbate the crisis. They called for a critical review of past UN missions in Haiti and demanded respect for the sovereignty of the Haitian people to decide their own future.

Isabel Tejeda, from the Dominican Solidarity Campaign with Cuba, emphasized the importance of Haiti’s independence in resolving its crisis and criticized the Dominican Government for supporting intervention, which she believes goes against the Constitution.

Various organizations have signed the document, including the National Confederation of Rural Women, Trade Union Unity, Homeland for All, Communist Labor and Broad Front parties, the Dominican Committee of Solidarity with Venezuela, the National Association of Nurses, the Caamaño Foundation, the Dominican Youth Force, the Dominican Solidarity Campaign with Cuba, Force of the Revolution, and the National Human Rights Commission.
