The Ministry of Commerce issued the “Statistical Bulletin of China’s Foreign Contracted Projects in 2020” on the same day. This is the first time that the Ministry of Commerce has published the annual statistical data of China’s foreign contracted engineering business in the form of a statistical bulletin.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce Shu Jueting said at a regular press conference held on the same day that my country’s foreign contracted engineering market will be relatively concentrated in 2020, with business in Asia and Africa accounting for more than 80%, and newly signed contracts accounting for 56% and 56% respectively. 26.6%, the completed turnover accounted for 57.2% and 24.6% respectively.
According to reports, the business of countries along the “Belt and Road” accounted for more than half of the business. In 2020, the value of new contracts signed by Chinese companies in 61 countries along the “Belt and Road” foreign contracted projects was US$141.46 billion, and the completed turnover was US$91.12 billion, accounting for 55.4% and 58.4% of the total in the same period.
Shu Jueting also said that my country’s foreign contracting engineering business is widely distributed, with transportation construction, general construction, electric power engineering, petrochemicals, etc. as the main fields, and the newly signed contracts and completed turnover accounted for more than 75%.
In addition, the number of large projects newly signed for foreign contracting projects increased. There were 904 large projects with a contract value of more than US$50 million, an increase of 10 over the previous year, of which 514 were projects with a value of more than US$100 million, an increase of 8 over the previous year.
Foreign contracted projects are an important part of foreign investment cooperation, creating important economic value and social effects for China and the host country, and also providing important support for China’s participation in economic globalization. Experts believe that during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period, the focus of my country’s foreign contracting projects will shift to countries along the “Belt and Road”.
