In Ulss 2, the effectiveness of vaccines is 96 percent. The hospitalization rate has more than halved

Of the last 767 infected, only three were already immunized. In July 2,091 new positives, but minimal impact on hospitals

TREVISO. In July of this year, 2,091 cases of coronavirus were detected in the province of Treviso, a number in line with the period between September and October 2020, while a year ago July ended with just 247 cases. What, then, are the vaccines good for? The answer lies in hospitalizations: this year one in every 174 infected people ends up in hospital due to Covid, in July 2020 one in every 35. And even comparing the data to that of months with a greater number of infections, the difference remains evident: One in 130 people hospitalized in August 2020, one in 118 in September of the same year. In short, infections continue to grow, also driven by outbreaks among young people, but hospitalizations remain largely under control: 20 people hospitalized in the Marca due to Covid according to the latest bulletin of Azienda Zero, of which four in intensive care ( none were vaccinated).

infections and hospitalizations

The trend of the last month, as mentioned, was similar to that of the beginning of autumn 2020. The (big) difference between now and then can be seen in the number of hospitalized patients, which has been growing for several weeks but always with increases content and, therefore, more manageable by the health system. We have 1,612 “currently positive” and 20 beds occupied, last October when we had 1,636 “currently positive” hospitalized were 44: the rate has halved. “And this depends only on vaccines, there are no other factors” underlines the director general of Ulss 2, Francesco Benazzi, “the credit is due to the coverage that those like us, that is, the vaccinated, also give to others, who may not they want to protect. At the moment, the vaccinated are helping the whole population. And the age groups most at risk are also those most covered, this greatly affects the hospitalization rate “.

effectiveness

A recent study by Dr. Mauro Ramigni, director of the Ulss 2 Epidemiology service, attests to 95.8 percent the effectiveness of full-cycle vaccines, analyzing data from the province of Treviso. In addition, from 23 to 29 July 767 new cases of coronavirus were found in the Marca, of which 78 percent affected people who were not vaccinated even with the first dose (mainly children under the age of thirty, affected from Covid on the occasion of parties and convivial meetings), while 21.61 percent had already taken the first dose. There are therefore only three Treviso people with a complete cycle who have become infected. And since the vaccine defends above all from the disease, rather than from contagion, their conditions are good. The Ulss appeal therefore remains to get vaccinated even if young and healthy, because unfortunately in recent weeks it has also happened to several twenty-year-olds to end up hospitalized for Covid: they are cured, but it is an experience they would have preferred to avoid.
