At a press conference held on Wednesday, Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd revealed that the department received a call for medical assistance at 1:14 p.m. local time, followed by additional calls for police intervention. The suspect, identified as a 22-year-old man, was apprehended by police at 1:35 p.m. after a rapid response to the distress calls. Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana disclosed that county officials had received a report of a home invasion at an address on Florence and Eggleston, where a young woman managed to escape the assailant but sustained several stab wounds.

“The young woman ran away from him. She received some stab wounds in her hands and face,” Caruana stated. The sheriff further revealed that a good Samaritan who came to the woman’s aid also suffered stab wounds but is currently in stable condition.

Police have emphasized that they do not believe any other suspects are at large and are urging residents to come forward with any pertinent information or video recordings that may assist in the case.
