Lubumbashi: 900 families left homeless after floods

Nine hundred households in the Brondo district in the Kenya commune of Lubumbashi (Haut-Katanga) are homeless, the provincial humanitarian actions division alerted on Saturday January 27.

According to the person in charge of disasters and humanitarian emergencies at this division, Lazar Kingombe Faray, these families had to abandon their homes invaded by the waters of the Lubumbashi River in flood after heavy rains which fell on the copper city.

« For the moment, there is decline. There are those who are starting to return to their homes but generally with regard to the Brondo district in the commune of Kenya it is there that there are people who have completely moved from their homes and up to the time as I speak to you the houses are still in the water P,” he explains.

For the person in charge of disasters and humanitarian emergencies of the provincial division of humanitarian actions, “this situation requires intervention by the competent authorities”.

Lazar Kingombe Faray launched an SOS:

« I appeal to the authorities to think in relation to this population near the Lubumbashi river, particularly that of the Brondo neighborhoods to the extent that there is a way to think differently so that they are relocated because this situation is recurrent every time. rainy period. Currently there are nine hundred households and these people are wandering and others are settling in with neighboring families but the situation still leaves something to be desired. ».
