Planned escape at Mwene-Ditu Central Prison grants free release to three prisoners

Three (3) out of the hundreds of inmates at the central prison in the town of Mwene-Ditu in the province of Lomami escaped on the morning of Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

According to the director of this penitentiary center, among the escapees is a life prisoner named Nkashama Nkongolo Alias Sandoka, born in Mbujimayi in 1968 and comes from Bakwa Kasa, Tshibila sector in the Kasai Oriental province.

The latter was charged with armed robbery and murder of a taxi driver. The other two, whose full identities were not revealed to the press, had not yet been sentenced and their cases were still in court.

According to Daniel Kazadi Mulangu, prison director, attributes this escape to the poor state of this re-education house which dates back to the time of the white man and calls on the Congolese state to review this.

To escape, these prisoners made holes in the front wall, taking advantage of the sounds of the rain.

Furthermore, other sources indicate that the head of the guards of this prison is also on the run.
