Pope Francis celebrated Holy Thursday by washing the feet of 12 inmates

Pope Francis celebrated Holy Thursday Mass by visiting the womenā€™s prison in Roma. From his wheelchair, he washed the feet of twelve inmates, following the tradition of imitating Jesus with his disciples at the ā€˜Last Supperā€™.

Twelve women, some of them clearly emotional or crying, climbed onto a platform and the pope walked past them in a white apron, being carried in his wheelchair due to his mobility problems, to wash and then kiss their feet.

Pope Francis celebrated the homily on forgiveness

He had previously prepared a short homily on forgiveness, but he did not read it, unusual as he usually does. In the last month he has given up reading speeches due to a respiratory problem that affected him after a flu, as he himself explained.

ā€œWe all have small or big failures, we all have a story, but the Lord always waits for us with open arms and never tires of forgivingā€

He expressed it in a tent in the prison yard.
