China Railway Sets New Record for Spring Festival Travel, Carrying 15.288 Million Passengers in a Single Day
On February 16, the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. announced that the countryās railways carried a record-breaking 15.288 million passengers, marking three consecutive days of record-breaking numbers during the Spring Festival holiday. This set a new high for the number of passengers sent in a single day. On February 17, the last day of the Spring Festival holiday, the railways are expected to carry 16.2 million passengers and arrange to run 2,256 additional passenger trains, further demonstrating the railwayās capacity to handle holiday travel.
The Passenger Transport Department of the China Railway Group stated that the return passenger flow of the railway has surged as the Spring Festival holiday comes to an end. According to advance ticket sales from Railway 12306, major cities such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xiāan, Wuhan, Chongqing, Zhengzhou, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Nanchang have experienced increased passenger departures. Additionally, popular rail sections such as Guangzhou-Shenzhen, Tianjin-Beijing, Zhanjiang-Guangzhou, and others have seen a large influx of passengers.
To accommodate the surge in passenger flow, railway departments have coordinated the use of high-speed and normal-speed resources, opened additional passenger trains on popular routes, and implemented measures to facilitate the return travel needs of passengers. Additional passenger trains and operational adjustments have been implemented to ensure a smooth and safe return trip for passengers across various regions in China.
As the railway enters the peak of its return passenger flow, the railway department has issued a reminder for passengers to pay attention to weather changes and travel service information, and to arrange travel plans accordingly. It is also emphasized that railway vehicles have certain passenger capacity restrictions, and strict adherence to arrival and departure stations is necessary to maintain a good riding order.
